Fountains and Pools is a poetic homage to the imported Islamic gardening traditions seen in Spain of bringing water into the garden in the form of fountains and pools. These ornamental garden features bring the cool, reflective, musical and playful characteristics of water to cultivated landscapes, while at the same time often serving the function of irrigating plants. Australia can learn much with respect to how we approach the use of water in the garden from countries with similar Mediterranean climates where water is a precious resource that needs to be conserved. Adapting to our environment here means planting gardens that are in harmony with it and thinking anew about how we view and use water in an age of climate change and reduced precipitation.
