As we near the close of 2017, it's the beginning of a new era for Craft. For 47 years, this organisation has worked to celebrate and champion Australian craft and design through our membership programs, exhibitions, retail store and events. This year has seen us say goodbye to our space of over 12 years on Flinders Lane to relocate to our new home on Watson Place. Designed by award-winning architect Karen Abernethy and situated behind much loved Melbourne restaurant Supernormal, Craft's new home presents a dynamic and flexible layout, allowing the organisation the freedom to transform internal space to better represent the diversity of its members and programming today. Multiple gallery spaces are showcased alongside its retail store and library which houses much of the organisation's archive from the last 47 years.
For this year's catalogue, we were lucky enough to once again work with the talented Lauren Bamford and Stephanie Stamatis and its perspective is as much a celebration of our year and members as it is our new home and new neighbours. From the release of our collaborative fashion project with award winning Gunditjmara and Torres Strait Islander Artist Lisa Waup and fashion designer Ingrid Verner to our end of year exhibition, Regale Crafting the Table, this year's catalogue shows off our new space and the community of which we are a vital part.
We hope you enjoy this year's endeavours and the work of the Australian craftspeople exhibited within.
