‘Fragments of culture…’ is the result of a collaboration between Katherine Marmaras and Great Frames.
Great Frames provided readymade frames setting the parameters for Katherine to work within. Katherine has then collated, abstracted and transformed items from her vast collection of remnant wallpapers and other decorative papers to create new works to fit within these set parameters.
Abstractions of colours, familiar motifs and patterns from both the past and present have been used to create multiple layers of interest and focus.
Katherine Marmaras is a Melbourne based multidisciplinary artist whose practice includes printmaking, collage, ceramics, drawing and textiles. Katherine uses printmaking processes together with other mediums to create works which explore the notion that art may be purely decorative.
Great Frames is situated in the heart of the creative hub of High Street, Northcote. Born from the idea of offering personalised customer service for custom framing and providing an alternative place to purchase art. They stock a thoughtfully curated range of artworks by local and emerging artists; and offer personal consultations for customers searching for unique art to suit all styles and budgets.
