Craft Victoria and RMIT Textile Design and Development present Samantha Seary and Yulu Mu.
Samantha Seary and Yulu Mu are completing their final year of Textile Design and Development at RMIT. Over the two years, these two artists have been thrown into a pressure cooker environment, undertaking rigorous technical training in weaving, knitting, printing, dyeing, drawing, stitching, embroidery, and various other forms of textile media. The recent freedom to explore their interests and further develop within the discipline has revealed a tendency towards transparent and unconventional materials and a dreamlike exploration of colour. Concept images, drawings, material samples and small, hand-crafted textile swatches will come together to allow the viewer a glimpse into the thinking and mapping involved in the production of studio textiles.
An arrangement of textile samples exploring colour, texture and layering are arranged in Tessuti Fabrics. Prints on transparent cloth will be layered over swatches made from both traditional and unconventional materials using textile construction and manipulation techniques.
