Co-curated by Craft Victoria and Linda Wachtel, Regale examines contemporary tableware and dressing through the stage of the celebratory table.
From the intentionally matching to the eclectically mismatched, the functional to the non-functional, this exhibition presents an array of approaches to tableware; exploring its history, materiality and function.
Disrupting traditional notions of objecthood, utility and table settings, the exhibition will incorporate a lavish ten-metre table, populated by a sumptuous display of ceramics, glass, utensils, and sculptural objects. An impressive seven-metre photograph, Twelve Wishes by Marian Drew depicting her evocative still-life tableau, will adorn the walls of the gallery, complementing the curated selection of artworks.
Regale will be on view from 27th November - 27 January 2018 at Craft Victoria's new gallery, Watson Place, Melbourne, Australia.
Opening event: Thursday 30 November 2017, 6pm – 8pm
Mon-Wed 11am-6pm, Thur-Fri 11am-7pm, Sat 10am-5pm.
