Lindy McSwan completed a BA (Fine Art) Honours in Gold and Silversmithing at RMIT University in 2014. With the help of an Australia Council for the Arts ArtStart Grant in 2015, she established her studio practice taking up residence at 1000 Degrees Glass Studio in Melbourne’s south-east.
Lindy has exhibited in numerous group exhibitions both nationally and internationally and had her first solo exhibition in the Sofitel on Collins gallery after receiving this award in Fresh! 2012.
The process of forming is fundamental to Lindy’s practice. Working outside the conventional silversmithing studio, most of her forming is undertaken using equipment traditionally used in panel beating. Collections of mild steel vessels are either enamelled or heat coloured. They reference her experience of travel to remote parts of Australia and aesthetics unique to the worn and weathered landscapes she explores, expressing either finer detail therein or vast and distant panoramas.
