Kasia Tons (1985, Adelaide) is a textile artist based in Australia. Using reclaimed materials and hand sewing techniques she creates full body costumes to both alter the appearance of the wearer and act as a conduit through which stories from her daily environment can be shared.

Through her work she explores the trans-formative power of altered identity through costume and mask. Her recent body of work 'Traditional Dress of Nowhere' are outfits that identifies the wearer's philosophical identity instead of a cultural or geographical origin.

She is inspired by activist movements, Anonymous and Pussy Riot, the place of costume in the Voodoo rituals of West Africa, the style of Frida Kahlo and the embroideries of Tilleke Schwartz.

Recurring themes that appear throughout her work are the subversion of societal expectations, looking at the trickster archetype as a means for constructive chaos and the historical use of textiles as a recording device to reflect daily life.
