Laura’s work is a reflection of her approach to life. Each piece she makes is an adventure strewn with surprises: little worlds waiting to be explored.
Her most recent adventure involved relocating to the remote Dampier Peninsula 250 kms north of Broome to work at Australia’s oldest operating South Sea Pearl Farm. Her time at the pearl farm developed a deep understanding of the cultured pearling process and experience theremote landscape of the Kimberley and waterways of the King Sound.
In 2013 Laura crossed the Nullarbor to embrace desert life and work in the largest open pit gold mine in Australia as an 80 tonne dump truck driver, carting high grade ore from the pit to the ‘Crusher’. Understanding the long gold refining process has imbued her practice with a strong sense of respect for her materials.
