As a glass engraver Peter Cummings specialises in creating imagery in glass. An ancient art form, in resurgence, he has spent many years practising and researching with the sandblaster, drill and lathe.
Blanks to engrave will be the best medium and tools to express the questions he wants to present to the viewer.
Recent collaboration with glassblowers used the old Swedish engraving/blowing technique of Graal for social comment with references to traditional Chinese and Greek pottery. Developing new methods combining fusing and engraving enabled a move from vessels towards sculpture and a “glass secessionist’ ethos. This relates to a bridge towards fine art principles using the medium of glass.
