Tamara Russell is a textile artist who lives and works in Melbourne. She explores her surroundings through the medium of embroidery, finding it perfect to express the colours, textures and shapes that inspire her. Tamara considers herself a painter who uses threads, an artist who draws with a needle.
Tamara Russell’s practice engages with the natural environment recreating the images and shapes in her embroidered works in both 2D and 3D form. Each piece is created combining, either alone or in combination, fabric, photography, watercolour painting, beading, machine stitch and hand stitch. This creates depth, perspective and richness to the work and combines effectively to give detail and texture.
