INTERVIEW: Anna & Oslo

During Anna Varendorff‘s recent solo exhibition at Craft, Things to Play With, she collaborated with Melbourne based illustrator Oslo Davis to explore the sonic aspects of her ‘jewels for a room’.

Anna Varendorff is primarily known as a jeweller – her work is featured across Australia in retail spaces and private collections – but for Things to Play With she challenged her traditional jewellery-making techniques to create metal works that are not merely ‘up-scaled jewellery’. Described as an ‘interactive installation’, Things to Play With asks the viewer to move the hand-crafted brass structures within the gallery space and to explore the relationships of volume, space and time.

Oslo Davis is an illustrator and cartoonist living in Melbourne, Australia. Oslo Davis draws cartoons for Melboure’s The Age newspaper, as well as a weekly cartoon called Overheard in the Sunday Age. In 2011 Oslo was a Walkley Award finalist in the cartoon category. Oslo wrote, directed and drew Melbhattan, a animation about Melbourne.
