Stains and Memories
sterling silver, embroidered velvet, wood, glass
50 x 22 x 3.5cm
The work consists of 4 framed pieces each one recalling a memory from my childhood. The pieces are fragmented, the metal progressively worn and fading. All are deeply personal.
My work is informed by my interest in historical jewellery, especially Victorian Mourning jewellery. My art jewellery is conceptual in nature, using text with mixed medium but always with jewellery at the focal point. I am interested in the memories and feelings we place on jewellery, how deeply personal it can be to choose to wear on the body. The passing down of beloved pieces generation to generation. These are the things that sit me at my work bench with joy and wonder.
