raku clay and underglaze colors (hand crafted forms with stenciled underglaze colors)
73 x 45 x 45cm
Fiona’s ceramics celebrates and honors the natural world. Works becomes a symbol of the broader processes of nature. Tipping Point is made up of coral like forms that express growth and vitality within a reef ecology. This work symbolizes the moment when a healthy reef starts to decline due to environmental impacts. This work is a development from Reef Lab (2013) which is a large installation that expresses growth processes gone awry in a fragile ocean reef. Fiona’s underwater diving observations in the Australian Great Barrier Reef inspire this work. Making clay works by hand is a multi-layered approach allowing concepts, technique and instinct to slowly come together. Tipping Point is hand crafted from coils with underglazes stenciled on and fired to 1200 degrees.
