hand made bobbin lace from embroidery thread wire support
32 x 21 x 21cm
Disquietude Trophy is a small, soft sculpture, made with fluorescent green and yellow thread using a bobbin lace technique. The shape and style of the trophy is based on presentation silver-work produced in Australia the mid 1800s. These pieces were often presented by officials, on behalf of “the people”, to dignitaries, state officials, and prominent local figures in recognition of their high status, and contribution to shaping a nation. By making a trophy with thread rather than precious metal Disquietude Trophy challenges the very idea of a trophy and the concept of achievement. Disquietude Trophy was made for people whose lives are greatly affected by structures imposed on them by those in power. When faced with limited resources, seemingly everyday tasks can require big achievements which are rarely acknowledged. So, if you got out of bed this morning, this trophy is for you.
