The Unbearable Promise of a Rain Cloud – Weather Cycle
porcelain, oxides & stains
variable wall installation
Romantic landscape painters depicted turbulent skies, full of cloud as portents of doom. I obsessively watch the sky and record its prospect. I see clouds as atmospheric beings whose presence promise rain. Cruelly, rainfall in a time of climate change is either catastrophically abundant or meagre. The cycle of weather and its effect is a constant topic of conversation and a constant concern. Forms such as mountains, clouds and trees are loaded with symbolic references which add layers of meaning to the narratives I am exploring. I use the traditional technique of pinched and coiled clay which is finished with a variety of hand made stains and glazes.
