The exhibition at the Northcote Town Hall will bring to a close two intensive years of training for the 2016 cohort of the Melbourne Polytechnic Advanced Diploma in Jewellery and Object Design.
These students will exhibit a body of work that demonstrates their skills in advanced jewellery techniques, marking their transition to professional jewellers and makers. The course is unique in its focus on both traditional and modern techniques, including silversmithing, enamelling, stone setting and filigreeing, and the beauty of the final results is breathtaking.
Students have drawn inspiration from varied sources including their cultural backgrounds, natural organic forms, and the fantastical and theatrical. As well as traditional precious metals, alternative materials such as bronze, sublimation printed aluminium, perspex and corian are used in fresh and exciting ways.
Stunning cut gemstones sit alongside the more organic forms of slate, sea glass and ammonite. Experience the playfulness of kinetic jewellery, the visual impact of bold sculptural and geometric forms, and the beauty of traditional techniques such as repoussé and granulation; Flux promises to be a wonderfully broad exhibition that truly shows the technical and conceptual development of each artists work.
