Craft’s annual festival of the handmade is returning this August. Stand by for a whole month of events, projects and work which celebrates our Victorian craft community. This year the festival focuses on the idea that it’s in the detail.
Through this theme, we acknowledge that many of the details in crafted works are hidden, invisible, quiet and overlooked. In a world where objects are automatically and magically manufactured into existence, it is more important than ever to bring into focus the skills, time and manner in which the handmade is manifest. As they say, the devil is in the detail.
Craft Cubed is Australia’s biggest festival dedicated to all things handmade and has developed into one of Melbourne’s major cultural events to showcase experimental, skilled and innovative craft and design. The festival will bring together over 700 artists, makers and thinkers for a month of Exhibitions, Workshops & Talks, Open Studios, Craft Online or Special Events.
Some highlights include:
Craft and Design as a Career all-day seminar presented by Craft at Deakin Edge
Love Locks at Melbourne Town Hall
Cultural Threads presented by the City of Greater Dandenong
New Primitives at Stockroom
Mari Funaki Award for Contemporary Jewellery 2016
