Two Melbourne laneway institutions, e.g.etal and Adelphi Hotel, collaborate to present a contemporary jewellery installation in Adelphi’s foyer. Talismans for Travel is an exhibition of wearable objects handmade by 17 e.g.etal artists, acting as symbols of protection, guidance and celebration for travelers.
A talisman can be any object that we inscribe with the power to affect our emotions or surroundings. This installation will explore the ways in which contemporary jewellery can give physical and artistic expression to the ubiquitous desire for safe passage and a sense of place, in the pursuit of new worlds.
Talismans For Travel features the work of 17 artists represented by e.g.etal, a Melbourne gallery that supports Australia’s thriving contemporary jewellery design movement. e.g.etal seeks to promote the essence of contemporary jewellery: a practice defined by considered research, conceptual ingenuity and intrepid technical diligence that challenges and delights, looks to the past and forges into the future.
Talismans for Travel features jewellery by Brad Bird, Liv Boyle, Anita Crowther, Julia deVille, Emma Jane Donald, Laura Eyles, Sarah Heyward, Courtney Jackson, Vikki Kassioras, Cinnamon Lee, Jose Marin, Nataia Milosz-Piekarska, Phoebe Porter, Amy Renshaw, Daniel Serra, Julia Storey, Mel Young.
