Craft Victoria and e.g.etal are pleased to present Dana Falcini.
Dana Falcini's installations explore the in-between, the gap between the natural and urban world, reality and imagination, to interpret and discuss the world around her. Her use of various media has evolved over time, experimenting with both manmade and natural fibres, from recycled plastic to animal by-products, often adopting traditional techniques of preserving, weaving and sewing. These concepts come from an intuitive response to her observations, research and investigations. Falcini is interested in creating pieces that open the viewer’s senses, connecting them to their emotions, to take them on a journey - one of reflection and interpretation.
Falcini's Hybrid series investigates the complex relationship between the natural and mans need to control, replicate and improve on it. Each piece poses as a comment on contemporary society in particular referencing science, genetics, evolution and environment. Hybrid Botanical expresses the resilience of nature’s ability to regenerate, adapt and survive. Reimagining by-products of human consumption, using traditional techniques to preserve, weave and sew, the past and future is fused to cultivate new botanical species.
