An installation exploring colours within Melbourne’s historic Campbell Arcade:

Clare Scanlan (Scanlan & Makers): “There’s an alchemy that occurs when the perfect colour in the perfect finish catches the perfect light. Instead of just looking good, suddenly the space feels different. It's part science, part art, and part magic; born of years of training and practice in the arts of painting and architectural colour creation.”

“I would love to work with a space that has some historic or architectural interest, and reimagine all that history as visible to the current viewer.

I would create a worn/aged paint effect by applying layers of textured and aged paint to the walls (and/or Interior Design objects such as room dividers or false walls depending on the scope of the specific site). I imagine using the 'lost trades' techniques and natural paint finishes I have obtained through my years working with handmade house-paints at Porter's Paints, but applying these incredibly traditional techniques & paints in beautiful, vivid, modern colour- customised in response to the specific space, the Melbourne locale and using Australian colours and products."

I would love to explore the power of colour and texture to create a space that is beautiful, tactile and colourful but also evokes emotion, a sense of passing time. I see this work as being unique to the space itself, and completely customised to suit: colour, finish, installation would all be site specific.”
