Window Walk | Claudia Lau X Shifting Worlds
Clay Worlds consists of individual ceramic works that explore different functionalities within the realm of ceramics. A stool, a plinth, a vessel, these familiar objects, purposefully built to come together to represent Claudia’s obsession with clay. An ode to the delicate yet permanent nature of clay and her ongoing investigation of what ceramic ware can entail. Harmonising utilitarianism, technical knowledge and glaze experimentation. Although varying in scale, the works all show evidence of the process and materials with careful consideration in making. Objects symbolic in their offering of human interaction, the creation of a symbiotic relationship between the animate human and inanimate object to give a sense of place within space.
Claudia Lau is a creative based in Melbourne, Australia.
With an affinity for the disposable yet permanent nature of clay, a ceramics practice was developed as a more tangible platform for design. Drawn to the purity of the craft, she started throwing on the wheel in 2015 and found an appreciation of the labour intensive process, cultivating her awareness towards the finer details and the importance of the succession of every step.
Her studio practice incorporates a range of retail, creative and collaborative projects. Each piece is a balance of intentional, accidental and an interplay of knowledge and experience. Making pieces that inherent an affinity for natural materials and traditional production methods. It is with this intention and care in making that makes each piece timeless and individual.
