CiPi AKA the Pink Shadow likes craft that evokes connection. CiPi's contribution to Craft Cubed aims to achieve just that through a combination of online interaction, real life activity and of course the hand made in The Pink Shadow Game.

What’s the significance of the handmade to you?

I doggedly believe everybody can and should make some of their own things to use on a daily basis. It's good for your soul.
The tokens in The Pink Shadow game are all hand made in different ways, it's an excuse for me to try all my craft desires in one project. If that's not enough I also get a chance to spread some SuperPowers to new people in the process.

What is your earliest craft memory?

Making endless padded picture frames for lucky family members in the '80's. The smell of spray adhesive takes me back everytime.

What is your philosophy or motto when it comes to creativity?

When it comes to crafts: Try everything, complete some of them.

What are you reading OR listening to at the moment?

Moby Dick, because the girl in Lost in Space said everyone should read it before they die. Whilst I'm not planning on dying until I'm at least 102, I do tend to read the classics, they help me understand myself.

How would you describe your studio or making environment?

In one word: Shifting.
While I would love to say I have a beautiful work bench with a view out to my garden, the reality is quite different. I work in "my" chair in our home at night, at my industrial sewing machines in my workshop while I'm avoiding "real" work during the day and then also in my teeny tiny studio in my garden that we made out of a large packing crate. Each place enables a different kind of making.

How does "good" craft make you feel?

Good craft to me is skilled and deep, there is history and connection to the past with skills to share into the future, all sitting there in one crafted object. In short, good craft makes me feel connected.

What other Craft Cubed events are you excited about?

I'm super keen to see "swatch the future" "Small comforts with Cat Rabbit" and fellow Castlemaine artists Wide Open Road Art with "Home Now, Home for a Lifetime" .

I really really want to go to "festival of Natural Dyes" as it makes me feel more Super powerful when I can walk around my block and know colours await with every step.
